First, to my incredible recipients, femmequixotic and noeon. Writing for you was truly an honor and a pleasure. Your work, together and individually, is at the heart of my HP fandom origin story. I was amazed, blown away, in awe, and enraptured to discover your stories, which build beautiful worlds and give these characters extraordinary complexity and depth. I've often taken comfort in them in rough moments, escaping to your worlds for an evening to visit other countries, or be reminded that change and love are always possible, or to experience the beautiful, complicated, human love that your characters discover for themselves. To call that a gift is a massive understatement, but I'm at a loss for a better word, so: thank you for the many incredible gifts you've given to fandom, and me, over the years. And for giving me a good reason, with this story, to try stepping up my game. Having you as recipients was the kick I needed to take a risk and try something bigger, deeper, more elaborate, something that I hoped would give the characters a chance to grow and the world to develop. I'm absolutely thrilled (again, understatement!) that you enjoyed it!! And thank you for your lovely comments, too! ♥

Second, I know it's corny to say it takes a village, but it does. That is until Pansy, newly in possession of Malfoy Manor, offers to return his ancestral home. Just one condition: he has to win, and break, Harry Potter's heart to get it. That's no problem. Draco's got this situation completely under control. Completely. At least until he doesn't.



No Greater Victory



This fic was full of firsts: the diary format, writing from Draco's perspective, writing a closer-to-the-war/still-unredeemed Draco, Harry's first sexy-times and remixing something, which was the theme of this year's Smoochfest. I remixed the movie Cruel Intentions, which is one of the trashy/darkly humorous teen movies that had a heyday in the late 90s, and which is itself a remix of Les Liaisons dangereuses. If you've seen the movie, let me assure you that this ending is significantly different from the film's. If you haven't seen it, let me assure you that (a) you don't need to have; the basic plot has been reinterpreted many times already and prior knowledge is not required or particularly helpful except, (b) it may be useful to know that the Draco character in the movie is a handsome, charismatic arsehole and this Draco starts out the same way. However, this story is absolutely compliant with Smoochfest's "happy ending" requirement.
