Still racing to catch up on DTH before reveals, so this list is not at all comprehensive. Nor am I sure it could be, because this fest has been so, so excellent. There are tons of amazing stories and so much great art, and it's been a pleasure to follow along and be immersed in these incredibly well-told, hot, evocative fanworks. I absolutely recommend checking them all out. There are loads more that I could've recced. but a few that have especially stuck with me are below.
Breaking the Line (NC-17, 20k) - Draco was a Dom for hire. Harry was his best client. But Harry disappeared and now Draco’s retired. Draco’s doing fine (he’s even attending parties!) but who should show up to the latest BDSM shindig, but Harry Potter himself? Can Draco play with his ex-client without breaking the line?
This story is super, super hot and it does a great job of exploring d/s dynamics. It's not just about the intense, droolworthy sex Draco and Harry are having, but how their sexual desires speak to their selves, their fears, their hopes for a relationship, for lives that don't leave them wanting. The writing is beautiful - sensual, rhythmic, gorgeous - and does a tremendous job of capturing the undercurrents of their exchanges. If you're into these kinks (gloves, knifeplay, bondage) it's a can't miss, but if you're not (and knifeplay isn't usually my cup of tea, but the meaning it holds here has such an emotional payoff that I was right there with them) it's still definitely worth giving in a shot.
Good to Me (And I'd Be So Good to You) (G, 9k) - Everyone returns to Hogwarts after the war, but nothing is quite the same. Harry's groupies are creepier than ever, Ron and Hermione are snogging all over the place, and the once-proud Draco is shuffling around like a kicked puppy. But that's okay: Harry's got a plan.
This was thoroughly charming. Harry is smart and trying his very best to be strategic, but still so out of his depth when it comes to trying to out-Slytherin a Slytherin, and both of them are great fun here. There are also tons of fantastic, memorable details that make the Hogwarts environment really pop and create a sense of tone and place that was just a joy. And I absolutely adored the ending. It was sweet and funny and so very them. Totally a blast to read.
In the Interest of Interhouse Cooperation (NC-17, 12k) - Organizing a Duelling Club was supposed to be a fun extracurricular activity for Harry’s 8th year. But add in Draco Malfoy and a malfunctioning Room of Requirement, and things can’t help but get complicated.
Do you want something that's super funny and scorchingly hot? Here you go! This is in the fine tradition of Hogwarts Eighth Year fic, and the way this story's told brings out that feeling - the castle is an active participant in all of this, the cast of characters includes Hogwarts favorites, and it's lovely to spend a bit of time back in the swing of things. Also look out for some hilarious interactions with Ron, a shockingly/fabulously perverted room of requirements, and a few very important tips about wizarding fashion.
Last City (NC-17, 27.5k) -Twenty-four Twenty-three men, six cities, and one unusual sexual requirement.
So. Fun. So fun! This had such a great balance of humor, emotion, sexual tension, friendship, and romance. Hermione is absolutely perfect, Draco is charming and complex, and Harry is fantastically Harry. It's a longish fic but it absolutely flew by between the location changes, interludes with Luna, and fantastic, funny descriptions and dialogue. It was a great way to relax after a long day, and I can absolutely see going back to it the next time I'm looking for a mini-break with Harry and Draco (and Hermione, and Zeph, and Ruby, and...).
Transformation (NC-17, 8k + Art) - Draco Malfoy is assumed lost in the Forbidden Forest, Harry is a sucker for mothers, so he promises Narcissa Malfoy to look for her son. Things happen.
You know those stories that you start reading and then can't put down, and it's past your bedtime but you really need to know what happens? This was one of those stories for me. I never would have imagined Harry going down the path he took, but the author did such a good job of showing how and why he became convinced that by the end of the story I was right there with him. It's got a touch of a horror vibe, which I often shy away from as one of those easily scared types, but man, was it worth it. The story and accompanying art were hauntingly, captivatingly beautiful, and this story is a journey well worth taking.
Tread That Fine Line (NC-17, 5.3k) - Harry could cope with being in love with Draco, it was the needing to get fucked by him that was driving Harry insane.
I was chortling and snorting and giggling the whole way through this. Draco's innuendos are hilarious even (especially) when they're of the "so bad it's good" variety and Harry's inner monologue's got him matched. But even as the humor had me grinning, it's building a level of tension that really made me sympathize with them both. As soon as it becomes clear why Draco's been whipping them out (the puns, I mean, of course) they stop being just funny and become a surprising reflection of the Draco we know and love. The humor of the story goes hand in hand with genuine feeling, and it all had me cheering at the end.
The Rose Tattoo (PG-13, 3k + Art) - A drunken tattoo becomes the anchor and compass in Draco's life.
In a word: atmosphere. This collaborative work does a really superb job of creating an atmosphere all its own. It's evocative and moving and says so much about who the Malfoys, who Draco, become(s) after the war and how. I loved the way skin and touch were treated throughout, the ways Harry and Draco come together and drift apart again. The whole thing is sensual and beautiful, and you could certainly spend a while just staring at the art. At least, I did. It's been a while since I can remember reading anything like this, and I loved every second of it.
