Side blogs are tricky business. You can't follow people from a secondary blog, period. Tumblr used to (~like 8 years ago) let you switch which one was your primary blog, and conceivably to switch it back and forth, but no longer. Two changes you can make to handle it: (1) switch your usernames. you can rename any blog, so could change your main blog's url to your fandom account url. But your followers stay with your blog as an entity and don't go with the url switch, so this is a more significant change. (2) put a note in your header: "following back as theminornotes." I see people do this with some regularity, usually when it seems that their sideblog is taking off or becoming central to their experience in some unexpected way.

As for the repitition, I see some of it, but also see changes over time. I think a lot of it is down to who you follow? So for instance, I follow plenty of people in the drarry squad but they reblog from each other a ton, so I also make a point of following people who aren't associated at all, or tracking the tags to mix up the content.

And with people ignoring or not hearing, yeah, that definitely happens. The best thing I can think of is to differentiate between a general utterance vs a directed comment. If you're waiting for your coffee and say "ugh, I hate Mondays," you might get some nods (/likes) but people might also reasonably assume that you're not talking to them or that you're generally venting/talking to yourself. Whereas if you turn to someone and look them in the eye (/message or @ them) they're more likely to respond, since they know they're not going to have misunderstood the cue and that you're actually looking for a conversation. (Maybe should've caveated that there are a lot of people in this coffee shop who are a bit awkward and/or afraid of being awkward. Or maybe that interacting with people in a public space just sort of...is awkward. but also, going out for a cup of coffee doesn't preclude going to dinner!)
