Rectober #1

banner by [livejournal.com profile] capitu

For my first rectober post, going for fics from a variety of fests. There have been so many good ones going on!

Title:A Fejedelem
Author/Artist: Anonymous (part of [livejournal.com profile] hp_silencio)
Pairing(s) Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwad
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1069
Summary: There is the line between them, the one Albus cannot cross and the one Gellert does not see.
Why I loved it: This is a pairing I find really fascinating but haven't read a lot about. This fic does a fantastic job of juxtaposing the beginning and end of their relationship and exposing Dumbledore's feelings about it. It's really visual and unfolds beautifully, and the sense of magic is so strong throughout, both as described and in the writing itself.

Title:Play/Pause (a Time to Remember)
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] this_bloody_cat (part of [livejournal.com profile] hp_drizzle)
Pairing(s) Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3,500
Summary: In hindsight, Draco should have known change was often unstoppable when it came heralded by one Harry Potter.
Why I loved it I read this on a rainy morning when I was kind of cranky and it was just pure fun. Loads of snarky banter and great details and I loved the fliratious antagonism between them. Also feature a fantastic, amusing Pansy and Draco in wet clothes, and really, how are you going to go wrong with any of that?

Title:Parapraxis
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] pasdexcuses (part of [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest)
Pairing(s) Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
Rating: R
Word Count: 18,700
Summary: Malfoy would never admit it, yet losing the Remembrall was a blessing in disguise. Or maybe a curse. But that was not the point here. The point was, the Snitch didn’t get involved until third year. Before, there was the Remembrall.
Why I loved it This is such a cool story. Draco and Harry go back and forth, daring each other to do various outlandish things, and the basic premise is a lot of fun. But it's more than that - in the process of pushing each other to fulfill dares, they push each other to confront things without ever giving up their messy, complicated, prickly natures/relationship. It's one of those stories that explains why these two makes sense together, why they're exactly and perfectly right for each other. And it's a beautifully paced, evocative pleasure to read along the way.

Title:Every Step of the Way
Author/Artist: Anonymous (part of [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair)
Pairing(s) Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~200 + Art
Summary: Draco is arrested for prostitution, but instead of being sent to Azkaban he’s put in a new rehabilitative Ministry program that requires him to go to therapy instead of jail. Harry, his therapist, is going to have his work cut out.
Why I loved it This is for my prompt, so perhaps I'm a little biased but jfc, this...everything about this. It's incredible. Every panel is so meticulously constructed. The images are gorgeous and rich and suggestive of so much emotional depth and change. The accompanying text is perfection. The tension builds beautifully and the ending is fantastic, and the amount of time you could spend just staring at this totally hotness is not to be underestimated. Totally fantastic.

Thanks! And yeah, Parapraxis was so unique! I was sorry not to see it recced more at the time - one of those stories you don't want to let fall by the wayside.

OMG Parapraxis! I so loved that story! :D I have yet to catch up with fan_fair and silencio. And drizzle! I'm so behind on everything :(

♥♥♥

Parapraxis was so amazing! One to remember. I'm behind too. Very behind. Trying to think of it as an opportunity to indulge in scads of HP goodness, we'll see whether that sticks. But I've read some excellent stuff in each fest, so that's some useful motivation to keep trucking!

Great recs! Lovely mix of fests. And I utterly agree with that final art. It's ridiculously good.

Isn't it phenomenal? I was in total awe, staring at for ages. Jaw-droppingly good, that one.

Great rec list. I just saw that I forgot to leave kudos for Parapraxis and Play/Pause on AO3. Tsk.
Thank you for the reminder. :D

You write the loveliest recs! Definitely agree on all of these, though I haven't read Play/Pause yet, so I need to add that to my list!

Aww, thanks! Play/Pause is great! I'd say I recommend it, but that much is obvious. So I'll specifically recommend it for a moment when you need a grin or a giggle. Such good fun.
