Oooh, yeah, I mentioned it but didn't explain in depth. You need to have either xkit or tumblr saviour for it to work, and it needs to be on the computer you're using (so if the problem is looking at nsfw content on a work computer, that computer needs to have the extension). (ETA: if you're not on a computer, there's a mobile version of xkit for ios devices, but not for android. If you're using an ipad or iphone, you can download xkit for $2 and tumbl with that, but there isn't yet anything for android phones.) (ETA2, sorry!!! If you're using xkit, it keeps track of the settings for your account in the cloud, so whatever you blacklist on one device will be blacklisted on the others.)
Then, in xkit, go to "Get Extensions" and scroll down to "Blacklist" and install:
Then go back to the tab with all your extensions and add the terms you want to blacklist:
Tumblr savior is a browser extension, so it will appear in the upper right of your browser:
Clicking on it will open a window that lets you list the relevant terms:
Both also give you the option to whitelist words, which means that posts with those words will always show. So for instance, if you were a Scorbus shipper but didn't want to know anything else about the Cursed Child, you could blacklist "cursed child" but whitelist "scorbus" and you'd see only the scorbus posts about cursed child.
They also have settings about what to do with blacklisted posts. The default, and what I've stuck with, is that it tells you when there's a blacklisted post and gives you the option to click on it:
But you can have it remove all blacklisted posts completely, or, I think, other options.
Also, both are particular about how they handle different terms, so for instance, to take a screencap of a blacklisted post I added "harry potter" to my blacklist, and it didn't block anything, because no posts had used the term "harry potter" - they were all tagged as "hp" or with character names, or used the term "harry potter" in images, which didn't register as text to be blocked. Just FYI, when adding terms! It shouldn't be such a big deal if the goal is blocking NSFW content. Most people are good about tagging for it (or tagging 'nudity' or 'nudity cw' or similar) so as long as your mutual tags, you should be good. And if they don't, it's totally reasonable to ask them to! People aren't always aware of why/that it's an important courtesy, and I've seen plenty of bloggers get reminders and be totally fine with them.
Hope that helps!!! If you've got more questions, just holler!
